Pokémon VSTAR cards debuted in the Brilliant Stars expansion (February 2022), extending the V-series evolution line and echoing GX and Z-move mechanics from earlier Sword & Shield sets.
Game Mechanics and Strategic Use
Evolving from a Pokémon V grants VSTAR cards increased HP and stronger attacks plus a one-time use VSTAR Power, tracked by a special marker. This high-impact ability adds strategic depth and is balanced by awarding 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out.
VSTAR powers were an important part of the metagame and good usage could decide battles.
Artwork, Rarity, and Collectibility
These cards feature eye-catching full-art or alternate-art illustrations with gold star-patterned borders and the “VSTAR” suffix. With a pull rate harder than V cards, VSTAR cards occupy a coveted middle ground, harder to find than V cards but more accessible than VMAX variants.
