What are Pokémon VSTAR cards
Special evolution cards introduced in the Sword & Shield era, representing powerful Pokémon with unique VSTAR Powers that can only be used once a game.
Distinctive gold star-patterned border and VSTAR suffix in the Pokémon's name.
Evolve from basic V Pokémon and provide 2 Prize Cards when knocked out.
Pull rates of VSTAR cards are approximately 1 out of 36 packs (about 2.8%).
The VSTAR Pokémon cards were first found in the Sword & Shield series of expansions,
which came via the Brilliant Stars expansion set, released in February 2022.
These are specially evolutions of the V Pokémon.
They have game changing VSTAR Powers that can be used once per game just like earlier GX cards and Z-moves in the Pokémon video games.
VSTAR cards feature gold and white patterned borders around the Pokémon, and the Pokémon's name is suffixed with 'VSTAR'.
In a gameplay context, VSTAR cards are evolved from V-level Pokémon, giving them significantly more powerful skills, including higher HP, more powerful Attacks, and the special VSTAR Power.
The VSTAR Power is yet another level of strategy inside a game that requires other players to figure out the perfect timing to use such a powerful one-time effect.
VSTAR markers have also been included within Sword & Shield era products to help keep track of the use of the VSTAR Powers, giving a physical component to this gameplay element.
VSTAR Pokémon are thought to be fundamentally similar to their V counterparts,
in giving up 2 Prize Cards when Knocked Out- balancing the added power with added risk.
However, giving up 2 prize cards gives them an edge over their VMAX counterparts yields 3 on knockout.
