What are Pokémon TAG Team cards
Special cards introduced in the Sun & Moon era, featuring two or three Pokémon teaming up on a single card.- Distinctive yellow border and Tag Team prefix before the Pokémon names, followed by GX.
- Extremely powerful cards with high HP and strong attacks, balanced by giving up 3 Prize Cards when knocked out.
- Feature a powerful GX attack that can only be used once per game.
The Tag Team GX Pokémon cards were introduced in the Sun and Moon series, debuting in the Team Up expansion set in February 2019.
These cards feature a special concept of bringing in two or three Pokémon together on one card, most of the time combining their typing and abilities.
Tag Team GX cards will have yellow borders, 'Tag Team' prefixed before the Pokémon names, and 'GX' affixed at the end.
As all these cards tend to depict the final evolution stages of the Pokémon, the Tag Team GX cards are considered Basic Pokémon which can be immediately played in the game.
These cards come with very high HP, often 240 or more (which was high for the metagame at that time),
and very strong attacks. However this is balanced out with a major drawback: when knocked out, the opponent is awarded 3 Prize Cards.
Tag Team GX Pokémon are like other GX cards in that they have a very strong GX attack, which can be used only once per game per player.
Most of the Tag Team GX cards have attacks or abilities that increase in strength if an energy of a particular type is attached.
This in turn makes one have a more diversified approach to their deck building.
For some of the cards there are multiple alternative artwork variants of the same card.
These cards have identical except for their number and artwork,
and some of them due to their impressive artwork and hard pullrates from booster pack are relatively expensive.
These cards often pair Pokémon that wouldn't typically team up because they are from different generations or types, which leads to some interesting and sometimes surprising combinations.
Tag Team GX cards peppered across many sets in the Sun & Moon-era, from Team Up, through Unbroken Bonds and into Cosmic Eclipse.
This makes the Tag Team GX cards among the rarest in the sets and, as such, highly sought after by collectors.
